They sure didn't waste any time. Future Shop just locked their doors, put up signs for customers—I assume employees didn't know either by the lack of any leaks at all—and shut down their website and mobile apps. Can you imagine coming into work and finding the place essentially all boarded up with no warning?
According to a report in the Vancouver Sun, 66 Future Shop stores will be closed permanently and 65 others will turn into Best Buy locations. In all, 1,500 jobs will be lost, but that doesn't sound right. With 66 stores closing, that would only be about 23 employees per location. There has to be more employees than that. I think I've seen more people than that on duty at one time. The Best Buy locations will reopen on April 4th.
Not cool Best Buy Canada.
